![]() The mandate is in Virginia Regulations as follows: Postsecondary goals must be related to the results of the transition assessment. There must be evidence in the IEP or the student’s file of appropriate transition assessment. Students must have measurable postsecondary goals based on age-appropriate transition assessments. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004), and its accompanying regulations, at 34 CFR 300.1 et seq., and state law and regulations, through the Regulations Governing Special Education Programs for Children with Disabilities in Virginia (the Virginia Regulations), 8 VAC 20-81-0 et seq., require that every student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) receives transition planning for life after graduation.
